How many cigarettes do you smoke a day?

Quitting with Nicabate® Patches

Everything’s been a bit up and down this week. We had a little party at work, it was quite low-key, but I was around a bit of drinking and smoking. I had a really good night. I had a few drinks but managed to stay in control the whole night. It’s amazing how, once you’re standing in a club with a drink, grabbing a cigarette seems like second nature. I naturally started talking to a few of the girls who were smokers and just moved outside with them when they went for a smoke. I was halfway through bludging a cigarette off them… but stopped.

The big test was later in the week when I had a bit of a disagreement with my boss. It was in the morning and we sort of blew-up and then calmed down, but as the day went on I started really wanting a cigarette. It combined with a few other things and I slowly slid up to boiling point. The situation was purely professional but boy did I get cranky!

It’s times like that when you think about having a cigarette that you just need to deal with it. A cigarette just doesn’t make anything better or easier. You know, ups and downs will continue to dominate your life no matter what.  I had a few crappy days over the last week but they're always going to be there and smoking’s not going to make them go away.

I was also thinking about weight gain due to a few discussions I had this week and I realised it hasn’t really been an issue. I know weight gain can make people go back to smoking – which is really stupid, but smoking’s stupid in the first place, isn’t it. I’ve been lucky so far, but making sure to keep my exercise up and watch what I eat.

Everything’s good at the moment. I’m looking forward to stepping-down next week, looking forward to the challenge. For me it’s been about keeping your life simple while you give up and making sure you realise old habits are hard to break… but they can be broken. So, yeah, everything’s okay. Speak next week!
