NICOTINE MYTHS & FACTS

There are many misperceptions about the role of nicotine in relation to the harmful health effects of smoking. In fact 25% of Australian smokers think that nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is just as harmful as smoking cigarettes and an additional 40% of smokers didn't know whether this was true or false.

This means that many smokers who want to quit either delay their attempt, or try to do it without any help. Which doesn't stack up when quitting with therapeutic nicotine products such as Nicabate patch, lozenge and gum and can double your chances of quitting successfully.

Cold turkey is the most common method people use to quit smoking. It's also the least successful with the vast majority of cold turkey quit attempts failing within 6 months.

Myth: Once nicotine exits the body, the addiction to smoking is gone.

Fact: While nicotine completelyt exits the body within a relatively short time frame, the addiction to both smoking and nicotine can continue for months. Without nicotine and especially in situations where you usually smoke, the nicotine receptors in your brain continue to crave nicotine which can sabotage your willpower.

Myth: Nicotine is the most harmful ingredient in cigarettes

Fact: It's a common perception that nicotine is the most dangerous ingredient in cigarettes, however the reality is that nicotine is not directly responsible for tobacco-related diseases.

Therapeutic nicotine helps relieve cravings and mithdrawal symptoms from quitting so you and your willpower can remain strong. Used as directed, with a step down program that leaves you smoke free from day 1 and nicotine free after 10-12 weeks therapeutic nicotine offers a way to break the addiction.
